I am Sanchana, an Educational & Developmental Psychologist and founder of flourish inside out Psychology Services in Sydney’s lower north shore. I moved to Sydney on my own when I was 21 to pursue postgraduate studies with a dream to make Australia home. I spent my childhood living in the Middle East for some years and then in India. Having lived in three different countries and across three cultures, I have had to navigate feeling ‘different’ and often, not belonging during my younger years.
Since 2008, I have had experience working with children, adolescents and adults in schools, community mental health, hospital, and non-profit settings. I have also provided supervision to other psychologists and allied health practitioners since 2015.
My areas of special interest:
- Anxiety (generalised anxiety, social anxiety, panic, perfectionism, phobias, performance anxiety, imposter syndrome)
- Depression
- Grief and loss
- Adjusting to chronic illness and complex medical issues
- Life transitions (e.g. migration, career change, relationship status etc.)
- Tics, Tourette’s, and Trichotillomania
- PTSD
- Stress and burnout
- Cross-cultural issues
- General wellbeing
Special groups I enjoy working with:
My therapeutic approaches:
I am trained in and use Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) as my main modalities but I am also informed by positive psychology and compassion-focussed approaches. I work in a trauma-informed manner. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and work in a culturally sensitive manner.
When not working, I enjoy creative writing, reading, going to music gigs, spending time at the beach, hiking, and doing the bidding of my two rescue cats.
